Tropical Storm Chantal became the first named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season to hit the United States after it made landfall in South Carolina early Sunday. It isn’t a major threat to land.

Tropical Storm Chantal, the first of the year to impact the coast, is expected to hit Georgetown County early Sunday and linger for 12 hours, then move on.

This new storm will be short-lived, but it's expected to put a damper on holiday weekend plans along parts of the Southeast coast.
