Brian Wilson, cofounder of The Beach Boys and the creative force behind the group’s surf sound, orchestral arrangements and perfect harmonies, has died, his family announced on Wednesday.

The Beach Boys have paid tribute to bandmate and co-founder Brian Wilson. The former lead songwriter of the band died on Wednesday, June 11, at the age of 82.

Brian Wilson, co-creator and original member of The Beach Boys, has died at age 82. His daughters, Carnie and Wendy, formed the group Wilson Phillips in 1989 alongside Chynna Phillips.
