A military spectacle took place at the National Mall Saturday evening with troops marching and tanks rolling along Constitution Avenue. Parade organizers moved up the start as storms formed across the region.

The parade, honoring the Army’s long-planned 250th anniversary celebration and coinciding with Trump’s 79th birthday, is set to step off from the Lincoln Memorial under the threat of stormy weather in Washington and protests around the country tied to a turbulent week of immigration enforcement that has involved military deployment in Los Angeles.

Thousands of demonstrators crowded into streets, parks, and plazas across the US, blaring anti-authoritarian chants mixed with support for protecting democracy and immigrant rights.

Despite the sweltering heat, hundreds — likely thousands — of people came out to express their disapproval of the Trump administration. And while protesters were loud and passionate, it did remain peaceful.

Organizers are calling for Americans to attend demonstrations across the country to protest President Trump on his 79th birthday.

More than 140,000 protesters gathered in cities across the Bay Area as part of the nationwide “No Kings” protests that brought young and old alike into the streets to in a “nationwide day of defiance” set to coincide with President Donald Trump’s $45 million military parade in Washington,
