LONDON (AP) — South Africa won the World Test Championship against titleholder Australia by five wickets after knocking off the last 69 runs required on the fourth morning of the final on Saturday. The Proteas achieved their first major cricket title in 27 years, sparking celebrations at Lord’s.

Mitchell Starc scored an unbeaten half-century as Australia’s last-wicket pair put on a 59-run partnership on Friday to set South Africa a daunting target of 282 runs to win the World Test Championship final at Lord’s.

While South Africa lost captain Temba Bavuma's wicket early on for 66 runs, it was centurion Aiden Markram who guided them home to a famous victory over Australia.
