While many horse racing fans are expecting Saturday’s Belmont Stakes to be a rematch, it just might turn into a threematch.

The race marked a kind of replay of the Kentucky Derby. Sovereignty finished in first, Journalism ended up in second again and Baeza was third — the same 1-2-3 as the Derby.

Smith has won the Belmont Stakes three times, the last time aboard Baffert’s Triple Crown-winning Justify in 2018. Baffert, too, is seeking his fourth Belmont Stakes victory and first since Justify.
