SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California Republicans filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday to block a new U.S. House map that California voters decisively approved at the ballot.
California voters approve Proposition 50 to redraw congressional maps, expected to add Democratic seats in response to Republican redistricting efforts in Texas.
The race was quickly called in the measure's favor by election experts even as thousands of ballots remained to be counted across California.
Calvert has survived previous redistricting rounds, including in 2021, when the overwhelmingly liberal Palm Springs — the first city in the nation to elect an all-LGBTQ city council — was added to his district and the Republican-heavy Temecula was taken out.
