Pep Guardiola celebrated his 1,000th game as a manager with a convincing win over an old rival as Manchester City overpowered Liverpool 3-0 on Sunday. Typically Erling Haaland was on the scoresheet, opening the scoring for a dominant City side at the Etihad Stadium with his 99th Premier League goal after missing an earlier penalty.
Jeremy Doku has been accused, often justifiably, of showing frustrating inconsistency since joining Manchester City in a £55.4m deal from Rennes in August 2023. The 23-year-old has put all that aside this season to become one of the major catalysts in Guardiola's restructured side,
Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku was delighted scoring in victory over Liverpool. Doku was City 's final goalscorer on Sunday in the 3-0 win. He said afterwards: "I think in a big game it is always more exposed. I am just happy with the game and performance from the team.
Jeremy Doku was the star as City beat the champions at the Etihad, but their win did not come without controversy
Six-and-a-half years on, Doku is the same, only more so. Conor Bradley stood up to him about as well as anyone could – certainly better than Trent Alexander-Arnold managed in the same fixture last season when Doku dribbled past him a Premier League record 12 times.
Doku's trickery earned City a penalty when he was fouled by Giorgi Mamardashvili although the goalkeeper got his own back by denying Erling Haaland from the spot. Haaland would not be denied though and powered City into the lead with a header.
Jeremy Doku has long been a source of entertainment and frustration for Manchester City fans. Against Liverpool, he was very much the former. The Belgium international winger produced a dazzling performance in City's Premier League win over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
