If North Texas does reach triple digits on Monday or Tuesday, it will be the latest first occurrence of 100 degrees since 2019, when the temperature was recorded on July 30. If North Texas fails to reach 100 degrees in July, it will be the first time since 2007.

When your body gets hot, you sweat, which evaporates and cools you off. However, when there is a lot of moisture in the atmosphere, it inhibits the evaporation process, so your body can't cool as quickly. That's what makes days like today dangerous.

The advisory will affect most of North and East Texas and be in effect from noon to 9 p.m. It warns of an increased risk of heat-related illnesses developing, and to combat it, officials advise residents to drink plenty of water, avoid outdoor activities and stay out of the sun.
