Hawaii officials have confirmed there is no tsunami threat to the state after a powerful magnitude-7 earthquake struck Russia ’s Kuril Islands on Sunday. Oahu Emergency Management confirmed the quake posed no danger to Hawaii. The Pacific Tsunami Warning System also reported that no tsunami alert had been issued.

One of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded struck Russia’s Far East early Wednesday, sending tsunami waves into Japan and Hawaii and across the Pacific.

Russian authorities have cancelled tsunami alerts for the Kamchatka Peninsula, Sakhalin Island and the town of Severo-Kurilsk in the northern Kuril islands following Wednesday's powerful earthquake, officials said.
