This little stray dog had been wandering the streets of California for days, lonely and abandoned, when suddenly something even more terrible happened.

"For some reason, this one is really pulling at my heartstrings," Buxton ACO Kristin Perkins said.

The person was running with their dog across an intersection when they were hit by a car, Illinois State Police said.
