Meta is evaluating its AI training accelerator, which could reduce its reliance on Nvidia's AI GPUs for training.

According to Reuters, the test process involves manufacturing an initial small batch of chips, and if it proves to be successful, the company will look to gear up production quickly. The in-house chip test is part of an effort by Meta to try to rein in its spending at a time when it’s investing heavily in the AI infrastructure it believes will be necessary to stay at the forefront of the industry.
