On Wednesday at 11:16 p.m. the National Weather Service released a snow squall warning in effect until Thursday at midnight for Elk County.
Winds will reach up to 50 mph, with wind chills as low as 10 degrees below zero. The winter storm warning is in effect for eastern Garrett and western Garrett Counties in Maryland and western Grant, western Mineral, and western Pendleton Counties in West Virginia.
Wednesday is designated as another 19 First Alert Weather Day. The first system arrives Tuesday evening and lasts through Wednesday morning. There will be a break in most snow Wednesday afternoon before the second system arrives Wednesday evening and lasts through early Thursday. This second system may impact New Year’s Eve travel plans.
In Marquette, a record maximum snowfall for the date was set on Sunday with 11.5 inches of snow. This broke the previous record of 8.2 inches, which was set in 2018, the National Weather Service said. This morning, storm snow totals in that area have already reached 24 inches.
