Tesco could use Clubcard data to warn shoppers when they are buying too many unhealthy items, its chief executive has said.

Tesco is planning to vastly expand its application of artificial intelligence to customer data as the UK’s biggest supermarket seeks to attract more customers by personalising how they shop.

Tesco customers have hit out at the supermarket after it was suggested Clubcard data could be used to 'nudge' them towards certain food choices

Tesco’s chief executive, Ken Murphy, told the FT Future of Retail Conference that the Clubcard could “nudge” shoppers into making healthier choices, as well as continue to provide them with its existing benefits.
