Facebook, Instagram, and Threads are ditching third-party fact-checkers in favor of a Community Notes program inspired by X, according to an announcement penned by Meta’s new Trump-friendly policy chief Joel Kaplan. Meta is also moving its trust and safety teams from California to Texas.

Reversing a policy enacted following the 2016 presidential election, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced plans to cancel third-party fact-checking on its social media platforms and dial back automated filters in an effort to “get back to our roots around free expression on Facebook and Instagram.”

CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who has been building ties with the incoming Trump administration, said the move was an attempt to restore free expression on its platforms.
