SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea’s new President Lee Jae Myung will travel to Washington later this month to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump, Lee’s office said Tuesday, for talks on trade and defense cooperation in the face of nuclear-armed North Korea and other threats.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Wednesday that the United States is looking forward to working with the Korean government to advance the “ironclad” Korea-U.S. alliance.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung will visit Japan from August 23-24 and hold a summit with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Lee's office said at a briefing on Wednesday.
