As cities throughout the country celebrate Memorial Day on May 26, Northern Michigan has its own parades and ceremonies planned.

Various opportunities to honor members of the military who died while serving the nation are taking place across West Michigan for Memorial Day this year. Originally called Decoration Day, the holiday was first observed by communities all over the U.

Memorial Day will bring comfortable weather to Southeast Michigan. Monday is expected to top out around 70 degrees. That is still just shy of the average for late May, but it is a steady move in the right direction. The average high for Monday is 74 degrees.

Beyond Friday's chance of a stray shower, the wet weather has mostly left the Metro Detroit forecast as warmer air moves in for the Memorial Day holiday.

You might see people wearing the poppy, a roundish, red flower on a lapel — especially on the Friday before Memorial Day.

Owner of the Eagle's Nest in Clark Lake, Blair Huff, says Memorial Day is usually the kick-off to summer. With cooler temperatures continuing through the weekend, he still hopes to see a busy patio.
