Voters in Charlotte, North Carolina, have reelected Democratic Mayor Vi Lyles after safety concerns in the city increased following a recent stabbing on a commuter train.

North Carolina had few elections Tuesday that were being watched as indicators of where the state or country might move politically. Democrats one state to our north cruised to victory in the Virginia governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general’s races.
