Multiple cities in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts will head to the polls today including Providence, Central Falls, Fall River and Taunton.

Election Day has arrived for the four Democrats pursuing Providence’s Ward 2 City Council opening. The Nov. 4 primary will narrow the race down to one Democratic candidate and one Republican candidate who will compete in the general election on Dec. 2.

Multiple cities in both Rhode Island and Massachusetts went to the polls on Tuesday for the 2025 Election. Providence Ward 2 voters decided the Democratic nominee for a city council seat left vacant after Helen Anthony stepped down in September to focus on her health.

For the first time in at least 15 years, the state is sending letters to every registered voter in Rhode Island to determine if they are still alive, and if they are still living at the address on their voter registration.

Woonsocket native and Florida businessman Victor Mellor filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission in bid to unseat Democrat Seth Magaziner.

This list of potential GOP candidates does not include Senate Minority Leader Jessica de la Cruz, who is on the Republicans' wish list of candidates for higher office but seems unlikely to give up her position of importance within the small GOP ranks at the Rhode Island State House for a risky statewide run.
