DETROIT -- Mike Duggan says the coming year will be his last as Detroit mayor, amid growing speculation he’s among the Democrats likely to launch a gubernatorial campaign to succeed term-limited Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

While three current and former City Council members are exploring runs for mayor, an analyst said business leaders, pastors and others may join in.

Baruah, who worked in President George W. Bush's administration, has spent a lot of time in government and politics. He said Duggan — who ran the Detroit Medical Center prior to becoming mayor — has mastered both policy and politics and has combined them with a business acumen that is results-oriented.
