Amy Sherald said the National Portrait Gallery was considering removing her piece, Trans Forming Liberty, a painting that portrays a transgender Statue of Liberty.

A rtist Amy Sherald, who is famous for painting Michelle Obama’s portrait at the National Portrait Gallery, confirmed to ABC News in a statement on Friday morning that she had cancelled her upcoming exhibit at the Smithsonian, “American Sublime,” citing a “culture of censorship."

The artist said that she made the decision after she said she learned that her painting of a transgender Statue of Liberty might be removed to avoid provoking President Trump.
