The Eaton Fire destroyed homes in Altadena Calif., a town northeast of Pasadena. The image was captured Jan. 8 by Maxar Technologies' shortwave infrared sensor. This sensor has the ability to see through the dense smoke of an active fire to the ground beneath, as well as locating the flame front and hot spots in the fire, according to Maxar.

Actor Milo Ventimiglia and his pregnant wife Jarah have lost their home in the Los Angeles wildfires, which has seen nearly 180,000 residents evacuated across the county. Many are feared dead, and thousands of homes have been burnt down.

Ventimiglia, a 47-year-old father to be, is among the celebrities affected by the destructive blazes that broke out Tuesday morning.
