The Mets have an intriguing target to fill a power-hitting void this offseason as Munetaka Murakami was reportedly posted by his Japanese team.
Take it from former MLB general manager Jim Bowden, who listed the Mets as a “best team fit” for each of the top 19 free agents available this offseason in a recent article in The Athletic.
The two biggest Mets names that are set to hit the market are first baseman Pete Alonso and reliever Edwin Diaz. Both players had opt-out clauses, and both have decided to opt out of their current deal in order to test free agency once again.
With free agency set to begin, here are the Mets’ top three priorities: The closer opted out of the final three years of his contract on Monday, a source confirmed, and he’s a priority. The Mets struggled when they lost Diaz for all of 2023, and without him this year, they probably wouldn’t have gotten as close to making the playoffs as they did.
