India has extended former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's visa amid recently renewed calls for her extradition to Bangladesh, reports the Hindustan Times. Hasina fled Bangladesh on August 5 last year amid a people's uprising against her Awami League government and has remained in India since then.

New Delhi India has extended the visa of deposed Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who has been in the country since last August, people familiar with the matter said against the backdrop of growing calls in Dhaka for her extradition.

Bangladesh’s interim government revoked the passports of 97 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, due to alleged involvement in the July uprising and enforced disappearances. The International Crimes Tribunal issued arrest warrants for Hasina and others,

Hasina, who left for India after her Awami League-led government crumbled amidst historic anti-government demonstrations in August 2024, now faces her second arrest warrant.

Passports of a total of 97 individuals, including the ousted prime minister, have been revoked in the wake of the criminal proceedings against these individuals in the country.

Following the International Crimes Tribunal's issuance of a second arrest warrant for former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, former Indian High Commissioner Veena Sikri called into question the evidence supporting allegations of enforced disappearances.
