Sunday sees the start of summer’s meteor season in the Northern Hemisphere, with the with start of two overlapping showers— the Delta Aquarids and the Alpha Capricornids.

Stargazers are in for a rare treat at month’s end, when two separate meteor showers each peak activity on the same night, promising a combined rate of up to 30 “shooting stars” an hour. According to the American Meteor Society,

Rip current risk remains elevated, with purple flags flying at some beaches due to the presence of jellyfish. The Crystal Coast and Southern Outer Banks are in a moderate risk of rip currents and a low risk of rip currents for the Northern Outer Banks.

Scattered showers and isolated storms rolled in over South Florida on Thursday morning. Added moisture coming in from the east will result in higher coverage of showers and storms as the day progresses. In the afternoon, the rain activity will form inland and move toward the Gulf.
