United Airlines released a statement Monday after Flight 108, bound for Munich, Germany, had to turn back. The Boeing 787 with 219 passengers and 11 crew members had to retreat to Dulles International Airport after the left engine failed.

British Midland Flight 92 (Boeing 737‑400, January 1989): A fan blade fracture caused a fire in the left engine, and the pilots misdiagnosed the malfunction and shut down the right (healthy) engine, leading to loss of thrust and a crash which killed 47 on board.
