All of Georgia remains under a state of emergency as some dangerous road conditions continue to pose a threat to drivers.

DeKalb County’s sewer system overflows so frequently, polluting waterways with harmful bacteria, that the county is in violation of the federal Clean Water Act.

According to the DeKalb County Police Department, officers responded to the 2600 block of Wesley Chapel Road in reference to a person shot shortly before 6:40 p.m. When they arrived, they found a 25-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds lying in the parking lot.

DeKalb County fire officials said crews are responding to the 1100 block of Briarcliff Rd NE, which appears to be a townhome or condo complex.

Firefighters extinguished a house fire in DeKalb County early Wednesday morning. Crews were dispatched at 1449 Bentley Woods Lane at about 2 a.m. When they arrived, firefighters saw smoke and flames coming from the back of the house. Two children suffered minor smoke inhalation and were evaluated by EMS workers.

A boil water advisory has been issued in Dekalb County, Georgia, located in metro Atlanta, due to a water main break.

Local and state officials are warning the public about severe winter weather that will arrive overnight on Sunday, Jan. 19.

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management is working to repair a significant water main break on Clairmont Road near Dresden Drive, the county announced Tuesday night. The break was a result of the pipe's age; it was installed in 1941, according to a news release.

Earlier this month, the Georgia Department of Education identified more than 70 schools that it says needs more support in the classroom. State officials placed 74 public schools on their Targeted Support & Improvement list.

Atlanta braced cold temperatures this week, and some of the city's efforts to keep unhoused residents out of the freezing cold have exceeded expected capacity.

Dekalb County was one of those hit hardest in metro Atlanta. Hundreds of drivers had to leave their cars, trucks and SUVs on the roadways when ice coated the roads. Shanard Weems and his team of tow truck drivers worked to dig many of them out.
