Blake Gideon, the safeties coach for the Longhorns since 2021, will be the defensive coordinator for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. In a social media post, Gideon called the week leading up to the announcement "the most exciting and most difficult week of my career.

Gideon returned to the Longhorns in a coaching capacity in 2021, following previous stops at Ole Miss, Houston and other universities.

Gideon had spent the past four seasons coaching safeties with the Longhorns and was promoted to associate head coach for defense at his alma mater last year.

Thacker is a former defensive coordinator with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He served as Georgia Tech's defensive coordinator from 2019-2023. He also served as the safeties coach for Georgia Tech in 2023 before becoming an analyst at UGA last season.
