I just upgraded to a 4070 with an older gen CPU from this and it runs modern games with raytracing in 80-90 fps on 1440p. Honestly, as a first gaming PC I think Alienwares are great: you receive them ready to be turned on and used for gaming. They have decent customer service.

Aug 3, 2023 · So they kept the same basic chassis but removed the plastic widebody kit. Seems like all they've done is make it look boring without really addressing the thermal/noise issues. With case design I think you need to either go for minimalist and elegant (like a Fractal Define) or gaudy and imposing like the R15.

I'm thinking my crashes and issues are due to a combination of things but ram and ssd heating is a concern of mine. I used samsung 980 and 990 2tb with built in heatsinks for my storage.

Jan 7, 2022 · In fairness to Alienware, the “proprietary” nature of the system was limited to the fact that Dell used Intel’s cooler mounting system (as opposed to AMD’s) with the Ryzen CPU. While they’re all Dell-branded OEM parts, the case and motherboard are bog-standard micro-ATX, and the PSU is, similarly, a standard ATX unit.

It's silicon lottery & little bit of luck imo, there are lot of folks out there who just buys a gaming laptop and plays on it, without ever being aware of temps and some of them Im sure would have their machines running for 3-4 years without any issues.

Jan 5, 2023 · From what iv experienced so far in 25 years of gaming is that Alienware Laptops tend to be much better build quality than their desktop. Both use proprietary motherboards but build appears much better in the laptops. However I would not advise spending this much money on a laptop without buying the extended premium warranty to go with it.

Jun 17, 2023 · Every 6 months reapply thermal paste, and maybe even do a system reformat. Upgrade small pieces at a time, no need to go all out. Start out with what you can afford. Even if it's a small upgrade it's still an upgrade. Example a gtx 970 to a rtx 2070, or something similar. Or maybe them ram, a new SSD, etc.
