The annual global cost of dementia is estimated to be US$ 818 billion. Nearly 85% of costs relate to family and social, rather than medical, care.
It is an important opportunity for individuals, communities and Member States to realize the vision of a world in which dementia is prevented and people with dementia and their carers receive the care and support they need to live a life with meaning and dignity.
The World Health Organization and Alzheimer’s Disease Interna- tional, an international NGO in official relations with WHO, jointly developed the report, Dementia: a public health priority.
Worldwide, around 50 million people have dementia. There are 10 million new cases every year. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, accounting for about 60–70% of all cases.

Aug 24, 2012 · Dementia is a syndrome that affects memory, thinking, behaviour and ability to perform everyday activities. The number of people living with dementia worldwide is currently estimated at 35.6 million. This number will double by 2030 and more than triple by 2050.
