Cyprien CESAIRE, born circa 1810 in Plaisance, Louisiana, was the son of Cesaire, a Wolof West African, and Marguerite. He passed away in 1875 in Mamou, Louisiana. Among my Louisiana ancestors, Cyprien stands out as one of my most esteemed relatives, having risen from slavery to become a prominent landowner, surpassing even the wealth of the family that once enslaved him.
