Finding quail with the thermal drone is always fun, but it’s not often we find a covey this big. There are 4 clusters here and at least 25 birds. Sleeping in a circle like this gives them a better chance of noticing a predator sneaking up during the night. While we do not use the drone for dedicated quail surveys like we do with a helicopter, we do see a lot of quail using this method. It’s cool to see animals in doing things at night that you’ll rarely see during the day time. | Spring Creek Ou
