A new underwater robot could protect vital undersea cables and pipelines from sabotage. Dstl, working with industry partners, has adapted a commercially available remotely operated vehicle (ROV). The ROV feeds video and sonar to operators, who can then remotely place explosive charges for safe neutralisation at depths beyond human diving capability. The ROV can be deployed from ships or shorelines to deal with underwater threats while keeping Royal Navy personnel safe. The robot is reusable, pro
