I’ve literally never seen a Black cleft simulation model… until now. As a Black otolaryngologist training to become a Black cleft surgeon, moments like this hit different. So much of our cleft terminology was built around lighter-skinned patients — “red lip,” “white lip” — landmarks that aren’t anatomically accurate on darker skin. This model still has areas that need improvement, but it’s a start. Representation in medical education isn’t just about visibility — it impacts how we teach, how we
