KILLER WHALES vs GIANT SQUID 🦑 One of the craziest things I've ever seen... We were out watching a pod of Orcas hunting the newly born Humpback Whale calfs when this large white blubbery object floated to the surface. It's the remains of a Giant Squid that the pod of Orcas must've just finished eating. This Cephalopod Week, we’re taking a deeper look at the Sperm Whale and Giant Squid, one of the most iconic dioramas in the Museum. Located in the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, the scene portrays the two titans locked in a life-and-death struggle in the darkest depths of the ocean. The diorama is dimly lit to accurately convey a world sunlight simply can’t reach. Amazingly for a mammal (which breathes air), sperm whales dive to incredible depths in pursuit of prey, which can include giant squid.
