Find your true deadlift start position I often talk about the optimal hip height in the deadlift, where the barbell sits over the midfoot and you go as deep as you can without pushing the bar forward with your shins. The shins should gently touch the bar, and that’s how you know you’re as deep as you can go. But there’s another way to confirm you’re in the right position.
